Former Mayor, City Councilor and School Committee Member for the City of Cambridge

Ms. Davis has lived in the Cambridgeport neighborhood of Cambridge since 1969.  Among her many accomplishments during her career in city government were the Compact for Sustainable Future and the Net Zero Action Plan. She has been an advocate for non-auto transportation, public health initiatives for children and seniors, energy efficiency as a tool to combat climate change, and as an advocate for preserving open spaces in neighborhoods. 

Ms. Davis holds a bachelors degree from the University of Rochester, a masters degree in social planning from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work and a masters degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

 

Highlights of this interview include:

  • First ran for office for the Cambridge School Committee after running a day care center.  Wanted to improve science education in the schools.
  • Health of the City Project helped set goals for the city to become healthier.
  • Ran for City Council after completing a master’s degree at the Kennedy School.
  • Worked make sure that the city only built LEED certified buildings.
  • Proposed the building of the first NetZero elementary school.
  • Concern about climate change lead to her initiating the Cambridge Compact for a Sustainable Future with the city, MIT and Harvard.
